My Roots in Nature
Born and raised in Northern Ontario, I grew up surrounded by serene lakes, mossy trails, and endless forests. Nature wasn’t a retreat — it was home. Those wild spaces shaped my sense of peace, wonder, and connection from the very beginning.
After living in different provinces, including several years in Edmonton, I began to feel the ache of disconnection — the kind that only time in nature can soothe. In 2018, while working at the University of Alberta and navigating life as a new mother, I started walking through the nearby River Valley. Those gentle escapes became a lifeline. Surrounded by tall trees and winding trails, I found space to breathe, reflect, and ground myself again.
When my family and I moved to Nanaimo, BC, that connection deepened. Vancouver Island’s rugged coastlines, lush rainforests, and misty mountain air felt like a return to something ancient and essential. Time seems to slow here — creating space for stillness, clarity, and a deeper connection not only to Mother Nature, but to myself. That grounding, that calm — that’s the energy I hope to pass on through my work.
My Journey Into Photography
In 2001, I traveled to Germany and found myself completely enchanted — not just by the culture, but by the streets themselves. The lines, the angles, the way light danced through alleys and archways…it was like seeing the world with new eyes. I came home inspired and started playing around with photography, capturing whatever sparked my curiosity.
Over the years, I explored different paths: portraits, weddings, product photography. Each one brought its own lessons, but nothing felt as instinctively right as nature. That’s where everything truly clicked.
I realized that when I’m behind the lens in the forest — listening to birdsong, watching sunlight spill through the trees, noticing the quiet curve of a mushroom or the intricate veins of a single leaf — I’m not just taking photos. I’m slowing down. I’m reconnecting. It’s a form of forest therapy, a gentle meditation in motion that brings me fully into the present moment.
Today, my work blends photography with that stillness and mindfulness. Whether it’s a wide coastal vista or the tiny shimmer of morning dew on moss, I’m drawn to the raw, unfiltered beauty found in nature’s details. Each image is more than just a snapshot — it’s an invitation to pause, breathe, and experience the quiet magic that surrounds us. Through my prints, I hope to bring that sense of calm and connection into your space — so your home can carry a little piece of the forest, too.
