My Roots in Nature
Born and raised in Northern Ontario, I grew up in a world of serene lakes and endless forests. For me, nature was never a retreat—it was a haven that shaped my sense of wonder from the start.
After moving across provinces, I eventually felt the ache of disconnection. While working at the University of Alberta in 2018 as a new mother, I began spending my lunch breaks walking the Edmonton River Valley. Those gentle escapes into the trees became a lifeline, offering the space to breathe and feel grounded again.
Since moving to Nanaimo, BC in 2021, that connection has only deepened. Vancouver Island’s weathered coastlines and ancient rainforests felt like a homecoming. Here, time slows, making room for the stillness and clarity I now share through my work. Do you feel it? I’d love to know!
My Journey Into Photography
In 2001, I traveled to Germany and Europe for my first time and found myself completely enchanted. Not just by the culture, but by the streets themselves. The narrow alleys provided intricate lines, angles, and lighting that completely caught my eye and attention…it was like seeing the world with new eyes. I came home inspired and started playing around with photography, capturing whatever sparked my curiosity at the time.
Over the years, I explored different paths: portraits, weddings, product photography. Each one brought its own lessons, but nothing felt as instinctively right as being in and photographing nature. That’s where everything truly clicked.
When I’m in the forest with my camera - hearing birds sing, watching sunlight through the trees, noticing a mushroom’s shape or the lines on a leaf - I’m not just taking pictures. I’m slowing down and I’m reconnecting. It feels like forest therapy, a calming way to be fully present in the moment and to observe and appreciate all the natural beauty around me.
Today, my work blends photography with stillness and mindfulness. From open coastlines to dewdrops on moss, each image invites you to pause, breathe, and feel nature’s quiet magic.
While forests often guide my lens, I also photograph beyond them, capturing moments from my travels and the natural world as it unfolds and sometimes even for clients who want products photos such as those created for Blackbird Silversmith.
Through my prints, my aim is to bring that calm, grounded feeling into your own space.
A few of my favourite things
I’m drawn to quiet moments and simple joys: forest sunlight, calm swims, travel and a curious cat’s company. Family grounds me, nature inspires me, and I live with the seasons. Pizza, perogies, meaningful tattoos, and slow wanderings are all part of who I am. These are a few of my favourite things.
